Rasuk (review)

Hello hello. Its time for another movie review. This time is another horror genre by local director Baldev.

Before I begin. Just a lil sinopsis to sum up the entire move. Usually I don't review on the sinopsis. But  why this time? Well because the story plot is simple and short. Here it goes. Those that haven't seen the movie, you would not mind a lil spoiler.

The movie was about the vengence of a Hantu Jepun towards this girl Melati. Apparently this Hantu Jepun was a soldier that was killed by Melati. Feeling not happy over his death he decided to haunt a sword. Unveiling the sword means releasing this hantu to the world. Want to know the rest of the story and ending. Then head on to you nearest cinema.

That should sum it up. haha,

For me this movie lack the plot, the story line. Unlike the movie where maya karin was the main actress. (suddenly I forgot the movie's name...pontianak something if not mistaken)

For those who just want to be scared then this will probably satisfy the need.

Some of the scenes where Melati was possessed by the Japanese Demon, reminded me a lot of The exorcism of Emily Rose ( the old version).

The movie relies heavily on the sound effect. You know basic horror movie. The part where Melati was possessed was a job well done. I felt kinda scared seeing the Melati possessed version for the first time. Boleh dikatakan menjadi la. Menakut kan aku ini. haha

There is a reason why I "hand pick" which Malaysian movies to watch. Not every movie interest me.

The reason is

1. The sound coming out from the actors mouth don't match
This is one problem I always see in Malaysian made movies. For those who often watch will know what I mean if you review each movie closely. The audio seems very artificial. Its like they acted and after that they go back to the studio to do the sound. For instance in this movie when the Melati's Mother inlaw came to visit, she sat in the living room and unzip her bag. If you observed carefully you can see that the zip goes open first then only comes the sound.

There are other scene where suddenly you can hear two different audio quality. The scene where Melati's Mother recite the verses from the Quran. For that reason I seldom watch Malaysian film unless I think its worth while. Sound so plasticky. Macam di buat buat...Watch the movie and you will know what I mean.

Now continuing with the review.

I find the plot some what strange and a lil funny.

Why?

Reason: The fact that it was all along a Japanese Ghost is funny. The Ghost was Japanese. Takut pula to the Quran. I taught Japan Ghost, American Ghost all different one. Boleh Pula the ghost be chased out of Melati's body by reciting verses from the Quran. This made me think that actually there is only one God but many Beliefs....Don't want to comment much. Pendek Kata Hantu Jepun faham bahasa Melayu.

Secondly, Why do things that people don't want others to find can so easily be found. Like the sword that held the Japanese Ghost was just burried a few inches from the ground.

Then there was another scene where Melati's husband follow her to the jungle. He cross the same bridge where he did his film making. The reason why I brought this up was because earlier it seems like the bridge was located very far from the house. Dia mula mula bawak kereta balik rumah. Tapi bila ikut hantu itu jalan kaki dah sampai...tak masuk akal betul...(for those who don't get what I mean go watch the movie)

Overall  Rasuk will scare you. But some of the scene, actually should be scary but turn out funny.

You can go watch this movie if you have watch all the movies in the cinema but only left this movie that you haven't watch. In other word Kalau dah tengok semua muvie ada budget lebih baru la pi tengok.

Why I watch it...Becauce terpengaruh oleh review kat surat khabar.

Rating...
Visual 7/10
Audio 6/10
Scariness 8/10

Overall 2.5/5 stars.

I google for a pic and a picture of this guy was all over

Minta tunjuk ajar skit.

2. Mozila mcm tak berapa stabil. Selalu not responding.

Layout memang kemas. This what I like!

Merong Mahawangsa Review

Mesti korang tertanya tanya.

Overall I can say that Merong Mahawangsa is one of the good movies Malaysian has ever made. Maybe not the best but it was a good effort by the Yusri KRU production team. Can be better though..

What I like about this movie was its genre, moving beyond the same old cinta, rempit, and hantu genre. This movie reminds me alot like the Lord of The Rings where there is an epic battle scene. At least we get to see other actors. Not always Farid Kamil and the geng.

However there are some parts that I find just lacking in the movie.

1. You get cut but there is no wound.

This was real obvious in the fighting scene between Marcus the Prince of Rome between Kemawas. Kemawas scratch the body of Marcus. But there is no blood on the body. And if you look closely through the torn shirt, you can see clearly the white smooth skin of Marcus having no sign or wound at all.

Then there was the scene where Merong got trap on a tower. and all the Gerudas men were trying to push the tower down. When Merong fell to the ground he woke up and you can barely see and wounds on the body. It was like he was invinsible. But then when the old man save him. My goodness suddenly he is wounded everywhere. Bandage here bandage there. blood here and there.

The details were lacking.

2. Scene that does not make any sense.

Remember I said Merong was trap on top of a tower. When he was up there. He got connered. And if you hear carefully. The Gerudas shouted "Dia sudah mati, Dia sudah mati" Then proceed to come down one by one. When some of them reach the ground, They started pushing the tower to overthrow it.

My question is.
1. If the Gerudas know that Merong is dead why the heck they still want to push the tower down?

The moment the tower went crumbling down. All of the Gerudas suddenly were dead. Only Merong survive. Huh?! like that also can aaa??

That brings me to my second question

2. How come everybody die just like that? One tower came crumbbling down, the next moment every body die already. So funny one!

3. Obviously that is not the same person acting.

Again back to the fighting scene between Marcus and Kemawas. When the camera was shooting only the image of the back of the two men. I know for sure the men fighting were stunt mens. Why?? Cause...if you observe closely, Kemawas was skinny. But when the scene came to the two men Figthing. Kemawas suddenly gain weigth. Jadi berisi already. Then got some parts the face of the stunt man gave out his true identity. Marcus'ws stuntman was not that obvious. But again if observe close enough you can see two different men.

It was movie that I may watch another time just to have a good laugh on the funny, ridiculous scene. Maybe when tv3 decide to air the show. I  may give it another go. But to pay RM 10 maybe RM 8 for this movie...My verdict ok la...support Malaysian Movie Ma. Patriotic bit.

To buy this movie on DVD....hmmm have to think....eh no need think la ...no worth it. Download...? ok la.! hahaha.

One more. the Gerudas and the people of Langkasuka look like malnourish people.  So skinny one. But then again Malaysian memang kecil what.  Some where in the movie I thougth the Gerudas were monkeys hahaha.

Movie Rating 6/10

What does a random personality test tells about you?

Ever wondered how do they come up with personality test?

Are the result conclusive? Are the result based on solid findings? Are the result reliable, the truth about who you are?

Basically I have no idea how they do it. But it is still fun taking them, trying the test out.

Here is one example of such test. The test is said to be attributed to Oprah's Dr Phil. or so they say. Before and taking the test. there is a disclaimer.

"Nobody, not even a quiz like this, can tell you conclusively whether this is truly how your friends see you or not. In fact, although this quiz is attributed to Oprah's Dr. Phil, we have no way of knowing whether it has any basis in empirical research or not. So you should take these results as something for fun and not too seriously. (Supposedly Dr. Phil scored a 55 and Oprah scored a 38.)" source : Psych Central. Take the test here

Mine... I got a 47 score. What does it tells about me?

The Lively Center of Attention

Others see you as fresh, lively, charming, amusing, practical, and always interesting; someone who's constantly in the center of attention, but sufficiently well-balanced not to let it go to their head. They also see you as kind, considerate, and understanding; someone who'll always cheer them up and help them out.

How did I find the result? Some how true...

Earth Hour! Safe time to Ehem ehem?

What is Earth Hour to our understanding. To me, what I understand is switch off all lights and electrical appliances for one whole hour and that will help reduce global warming. The one whole hour is for the Earth to rest. It's Earth only chance to get a rest from all that spotlight of heat and radiation we human give to it.

For me I am not sure whether all the hype about saving Earth is true or not. But hey, why not give it a try. If there is a slim chance of prolonging the life of the Earth for the future generation, for our children. Why not do it.

What the heck, it's just living without our so called "needs" for an hour. Like that also cannot do ka?

But there are also people that are against Earth hour. Saying that when there is a hype of celebration of Earth Hour, we travel to get to a place, cause more congestion, more emmission of CO2, CO gasses. Thus causing more harm.

I say the best way to celebrate earth hour is to gather with family and friend have a nice dinner under the candle light at home. But limit to only one candle la. Later cause more global warming pulak.

If you have kids its a good time to tell them some bed time stories.

If you are married its the best time to ehem ehem!. If you know what I mean. Safer ma. No need scared some peeping tom came record ur moment and show it to the whole world like the infamous Datuk Trio.

What ever its is, I can see now people are more concern, more aware of what they do to nature.

Remember to reduce and eliminate the use of plastic bags if possible. If you buy pen, tak kan want to put in plastic bag kot. Put in poket ma.

My uni was not left out in the celebration too. Actually this is the first time, the students took the initiative to raise awarness of the community. Hope this tradition goes on in future.

Menteri Datang. Semua boleh!

Hellooooo!!! Ohoooi!! Bertemu kembali! wahahaha. Kemana kah Si Da Niel menghilang?
Lama Tak berblogging? Lama Tak Komen Komen. Lama... tak lamaaa mah...ahaha.
Sebenarnyer Malas jer nak berblogging. Tapi sebab hari ni gua ter "rajin" skit.

Minggu ni gua dgn rajin nyer mula bersenam. Alaa, jalan jalan and jogging. Dah tiga hari berturut-turut gua mengekalkan gaya hidup yg sihat ini (bangga seh!). Teringat pula lagu kat tv tu : "30 minit setiap sesi. Dalam Seminggu hanya tiga kali" hahaha.

So hari ini gua ke Taman Botani yg terkenal di Melaka. Taman Botani ini dulu dikenali sebagai hutan rekreasi. Tapi sebab dah di "face lift" so nama glamour nyer di tukar kepada Botanical Garden. Tempat ni memang sesuai untuk jogging2 and aktiviti riadah bersama keluarga.

Cut the story short. Sampai jer kat taman botani tiba tiba gua di stop pegawai Majlis Perbandaran Hang Tuah Jaya (dulu dikenali sebagai Majlis Perbandaran Melaka Bersejarah).

Die tanya gua, "Nak kemana". Gua dgn blur nyer gua cakap, "Nak kedepan". Hahaha. Patut Gua cakap gua nak ke hutan kutip cendawan.  Dier pun cakap "Jalan ni tak leh nak lalu".

Ketua Menteri Melaka Y.A.B. Datuk Seri Hj. Mohd. Ali bin Mohd Rustam bersama dgn Menteri Pelancongan Y.B Dato Sri Dr Ng Yen Yen. Patut la jalan ditutup, pegawai kerajaan pun banyak. Pertama kali seh nampak Dr Ng Yen Yen dari jarak dekat. (Ali Rustam tu dah beberapa kali dah nampak).

Cut the story short again. Lepas Gua selesai berjogging dan bersenam. Gua pun on the way la nak balik ke moto EX Pie (5) gua.

Then Gua terdengar la skit perbualan mak cik, mak cik and pak cik, pak cik.

The aunty : You saw the toilet? Whoaaaa so clean...

The uncle : You see the newly put dustbin..

Setakat tu ler jer gua dengar. Tapi Gua telah membuat kesimpulan bahawa. Disebabkan ada menteri yg nak datang melawat. Dengan "Magika" nyer . Tandas yg kotor "ting!" menjadi kilat berseri seri! Tong Sampah yg dahulu nyer tiada "ting!" tiba tiba muncul. Bunga orkid yg dahulu nyer mati "ting!" bernyawa kembali. Maintainences semuanyer tip top!

Gua pun terangan angan skit kalau ler gua menteri ..ahaha.

Tapi Minggu Lepas Gua nak pergi try naik...tutup! Tak der org! Nampak Wayar wayar terkeluar dari monorail itu. Gua terfikir sejenak.. masa menteri datang jer ker beroperasi?

Tgh tulis blog ni gua teringat kata kata bekas perdana menteri kita yg dikasihi...Pak Lah. Masa tu dier datang kat uni gua (Universiti Malaysia Kelantan).

Gua paham maksudnyer tu. Beliau tgh menyindir sektor perkhimatan awan yg tidak mementingkan maintenence. Bila ada lawatan rasmi. Baru la nak tergopoh gopoh buat kerja last minute.

Ps: Manalah Parlimen Tak bocor. Semua buat kerja sambil lewa.

hahaha Peace out!

StartUp Week End, Universiti Malaysia Kelantan. What do they have in Common?

Minggu Startup, Where Ideas Are Born. Merupakan Satu Pendekatan Kearah Menjadi Seorg Usahawan/ Entreprenuer.

Key Lesson learnt during this startup Weekend Program are:

Taking the First Step-You might have a multimillion idea/solution/business model in your head. That idea is not going to do much for you, unless you take the first step in communicating that idea to people. That brings us to the second key lesson which is

Communicating your Idea, Put  It in Paper- The best way to validate and idea is to tell people the idea. Have it go through a proof of concept. Writing out the idea on paper enables peeple, like your peers, potential investors, mentors, understand and may be able to give you feed backs for that idea.

Its not about the Idea, but the People- Having a team of people who has different sets of skill will help build a strong team. Most Venture suceed is because they have a team of people with different sets of disicipline and are complementing each other. Three heads is better than one.

Start up Week is like no ordinary classroom tutorials where you learnt the basic of being an entreprenuer from text books. The program take the participant on a journey where they are required to take that first step in communicating their idea.

KFC.. is it really finger licking GooD?

I was a fan of KFC once upon a time ago. And KFC was the first fast food ever introduced in my life. If my memory serves me rite..I had my taste of the delicious chicken at the age of 7 or 8. And to make KFC special in my life, whenever my family celebrated birthday. We would go to KFC for a bite of that delicious chicken. And I remembered too. My teacher once asked the class, which chicken is the best in town. Majority including me answered KFC. (my teacher said, Kenny Rogers. That time I din't agree. But now...I have to)

The quality of KFC has been deteorating or so to say. Maybe it has some how got to do with the management of the outlet. some KFC outlet I must say really serve great chicken. Clean. And very welcoming.

But as of lately I must say. that McDonalds has out run my favourite KFC. I think the only thing good about KFC is the chicken and cheesey wedges. Other then that...Just look at the pictures and you will know what I mean.

Greasy, pale whittish looking fries
Limp, soft un"erect" fries
The fries basically tasted bland. Look like under cooked (based on colour) More like it needed some "Super Power" (tongkat ali) to boost its erectile dysfunction.

what the heck is this?
The burger my goodness. Only has 2 piece of bread with a I don't know how to describe. A piece of chickent meat (look more like someone cooked it out of boredom..just dip in oil and wallah! you have your chicken meat) A tiny portion of Salad.
And they expect this to be finger licking good. WTH?!! It seems like it was prepared half heartedly.

Using this was supposed to give life!

The chilli sauce tasted...nothing.. was not even spicy enough. Taste like "Lifeless" despite its a Life chilli sauce.

At the end of the day..This is what I got..

Oily finger
I din't even dare to lick my finger..KFC Its not that finger licking good after all.

Peace out!

Enterprise Saturday. Just another lecture Series.

Entreprise Saturday...

Waste time. Waste money. Not really inspired at all.

Just another series of lecture...

What did I gain from the program..

Feel bit sleepy at the end...

The Q & A session was too short...

The speaker seems like in a rush.

And to imagine the uni paid RM 5000 for him to come.

Evertything said in that hall today...

Already knew most of it.

Kudos!

Should have gave some workshop. Give task for the participants to complete. Not just talk...

Boring.....

How to feel inspired. If Tony was there then its a different story..

Muallaf. Sepet

Muallaf or The convert is the fifth film made by the late Yasmin Ahmad. I still remembered the first time I heard about this talented yet inspiring director was when she directered the movie Sepet. With her highly controversial flims that depict events and relationships seen as forbidden by social conservatives, especially hard-line interpretations of Islam. Sepet was one brave film that break the bearrier of stereotypes which tells a tale of a love that blooms between a Chinese boy and a Malay girl.

In the latest additon, Muallaf was first denied screening in Malaysian cinemas due to the Malaysian censorship authorities request of key scenes to be cut, thus rendering the story meaningless. However, 1 year later, Muallaf finally opens in Malaysia nationwide on 24/12/09 with a few dialogues muted.

For me muallaf and sepet was the reality of life that is happening in the Malaysia. Marriages now are not only restricted in the borders of people of the same colour, race and religion..It is going beyond that.

Yasmin Ahmad took a brave step into bringing reality to the people.

Watching this two movies... brings back the memories I had with her...

Cut the story short....

Watch the two movies if you havent...

Then we can have a debate on it. =)

Peace out!
